The Greentech Festival in Berlin offers visitors the opportunity to discover green technologies that implement sustainability in innovative ways. We visited the exhibition so that we could present you the most exciting food trends of tomorrow. We came across stick eggs, nuts that come from vending machines and a host of ideas that have the potential to change — and improve — our future.
With over 190 exhibitors from 20 countries, the Greentech Festival offers a concept that enables visitors to take part in exciting speeches, an extensive exhibition and a gala awards ceremony. Online 365 days a year and 2 days on site at the former Berlin Tegel Airport, the Greentech Festival creates a space for people, companies and organizations to present their green technologies for a better world. The mobility sector in particular was strongly represented — from train cars that look like spaceships or cars with an integrated sofa — powered by electricity, of course — to green food trends, everything was there. Of course, we are particularly interested in the latter — and we will explore together how this can change our future in the next sections.
Food without fine print — that sounds pretty relieving. That is exactly the claim of supernutural: With its 100% natural and really delicious nut butter from a machine that is somewhat reminiscent of a spaceship, the brand wants to get people out of their comfort zone and dissuade them from taking industrially produced spreads off supermarket shelves.
supernutural sells its machines in the B2B sector, so it is more suitable for the canteen or team kitchen. Nevertheless, we like the concept of pressing nuts (which, by the way, can also be combined with chocolates and/or freeze-dried fruits) into nut butter in a machine without palm fat, sugar and unnecessary additives so much that it is a must here. Of course, we also tried the energy booster and said: Can we please also get this machine, dear Kitchen Stories team?
The market for egg alternatives is booming, and that's why we were most looking forward to it: The vegan egg from Veganz — but how is that supposed to work? Quite simply, as the food brand has shown us. Europe's first vegan supermarket chain is announcing the start of retail and catering sales of its almond-based vegan bar ice cream this year. Why stick egg? Because it is sold very conveniently as a roll — white on the outside, yellow on the inside. In this way, the slices can be cut off directly.
Veganz pursues the approach of giving all people access to plant-based food in order to consume animal products for a More considerate treatment of our environment to reduce. Because of the plant-based ingredients, the stick egg is even significantly lower in cholesterol than a chicken egg.
What does the egg taste like now? Definitely like egg, but different. Anyone expecting an exact copy of the well-known hard-boiled chicken egg will be surprised at first: The taste is good and strongly reminiscent of the original, but the consistency is less firm and a bit too airy. Still, it's amazing what's possible these days — and it's undoubtedly a good vegan alternative to classic eggs.
A gift for the environment: Beeskin With its self-adhesive beeswax wraps in many different designs and sizes, it provides a sustainable alternative to (micro) plastic. According to the manufacturer, the raw materials used mean that food stays fresh longer than if it were wrapped in cling film. The cloths can be used for up to a year and then simply discarded in the compost or used as a natural fire starter. In addition to the sustainability aspect, Beeskin for many environmental projects one — for example, for every tree that is cut down to make paper, three more trees are planted.
Bottles with screw caps are of course no novelty — bottles with Remain-Dran-Lock On the other hand, yes. Voeslauer In spring 2021, it was the first brand in German-speaking countries to implement a measure that applies to everyone as of 2024 as an EU directive: Seals of beverage packaging must therefore remain directly connected to the bottle even after opening.
The lid is already being used on all Vöslauer 4 x 1 liter containers in Austria and Germany. It is therefore attached directly to the bottles, which have already been made from 100% recycled material since 2018. This reduces plastic waste and prevents unnecessary environmental pollution.
The range of sustainable products in the food sector is growing and growing — and has great potential to reach a wide range of people and thus bring more environmental awareness into everyday life.
It is particularly noticeable how suitable the ideas are already for the masses. The egg shows that the green alternatives are moving ever closer to the originals, which we might have thought could never be replaced. But it is possible — and we don't even have to give up old habits. And if so sometimes: For the sake of the environment, I'd love to!
